As I was trying to determine what to speak about tonight,
I thought about what one message would I choose to present
if I only had 1 chance? Naturally, I needed to look
at what God said was most important.
Mk 12:30 - And you shall love
the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your
soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’
This is the first commandment.
“Love with all” - such short words…
and yet such enormous ramifications?
Let’s start by seeing where we are now. What
% are you loving God now?
When it comes to your church attendance? Do you love
80% of the time?
When it comes to your entertainment choices? Do you
love 60% of the time?
When it comes to daily study & prayer? Do you love
40% of the time?
When it comes to your income? Do you love with whatever
is left over?
God created us, sacrificed His precious Son for us,
provided us with his Holy Word, and watches over us
with continuous providential care. Was that so we be
generally good people and pray to Him when we aren’t
Some might be thinking, “I'm faithful to God
90% of the time! Shouldn’t God be pleased with
Let's turn that around and ask ourselves, "Would
you be pleased that your boyfriend/girlfriend or spouse
is faithful to you 90% of the time?"
What about Christ? Did Christ love you 50%? He gave
up equality with God, took on a human existence, and
endured a cruel death as a sin sacrifice for you. Tell
me again how he should be satisfied if you show up to
2 Corinthians 5:14-15 - For the
love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that
if One died for all, then all died; 15 and He died for
all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves,
but for Him who died for them and rose again.
So yes, we must give Him our all! How big a burden
is that really?
How painful is it to give up our destructive sinful
ways? Who loves us more than He? Are we happier when
we are serving ourselves or serving Him?
How beautiful life is when you seek to love God with
all your being!
In just a minute we’re going to sing the invitation
song, “All to Jesus I Surrender”. While
doing so, be sure to examine yourself to see if there
is anything you are holding back from Him.
If you need to surrender your life to Christ in baptism
tonight, or if you need the prayers of the saints on
your behalf, please come forward and make your need
known, while we stand and sing.
